Illustrated Parts Breakdowns

Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs) are developed in accordance with MIL-DTL-38807. ION is fully versed in all steps used in creating IPBs: starting with modeling 3D assemblies and individual parts down to the nuts and bolts, and then blowing out (“exploding”) the 3D model, clearly presenting the assembly order and location for all parts used in the assembly.

ION Corporation also provides commercial and government entity (CAGE) codes as well as source, maintenance, and recoverability (SMR) codes with this data which is vital to the needs of the USAF and others for maintainability of these devices.

ION Corporation uses a combination of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD to create these documents.

Technical Orders

Our technical documentation segment includes technical orders (T.O.s), work orders and illustrated parts breakdowns (IPBs). ION is proud to provide numerous customers with these documentation packages for both ION-manufactured products and out-of-house manufactured products. ION develops technical orders for equipment and assemblies using both standard and work package formats.

Technical orders development includes:

  • Theories of operation

  • Wire lists

  • Schematics

  • Assembly and disassembly Instructions

  • Packing and unpacking for shipping and transportation

  • Full parts lists with source information in the illustrated parts breakdown

  • ION Corporation is also happy to include and format customer-provided data in T.O.s for equipment not manufactured by ION Corporation using customer-provided information.

ION Corporation uses Adobe FrameMaker to develop data using internally developed element definition documents (EDD) per MIL-STD-38784, which is the DoD standard practice for general style and format requirements for technical manuals. Work package formats are developed in accordance with MIL-DTL-87929. ION is also able to submit document packages in SGML format per USAF requirements and other military faction requirements.
